Biography
Rob donaldson was born in Falkirk, Scotland. He can remember sketching a roman soldier from a book as young as 6 or 7 yrs of age. He had many eventfull times in his youth, and he feels that if it weren't for art he would have been a handfull.
He left school at 15 years of age to work in building and civil engineering and construction untill he was 19/20 years of age, then while learning his craft as a sculptor and painter,..no!! not house painting ..oil on canvas! he took to tattoo art because like then and now, it was a difficult medium in which to work in. He done that for 2 or 3 years until in 1974 he was asked by "puck toys if he would like to sculpt their originals of the beatrix potter characters.
He did this, as well as working for heredities bronzes, circumstances played a part in rob starting tattooing again in 1983 with the loss of the retainer from puck toys coming to an end as the company had done a couple of years previously but he still continued to work in a new venture of special effects for the film industry based in london and run by alan craggs (a real character) his company was called concepts and interpetation he worked with many famous actors, Laurence Olivier, John Craven, Nigel Mansell and many more.
Just 4 years previously he was commissioned by the Queen to sculpt for porcelain her majesty's Mulgrave Supreme, a hunter, this was soon followed by 'rio' the queens lead horse of the state coach, over the many years that circumstances allowed rob has worked for, wedgewood, coalport, m.b.i. country artists and many more sculpting for his living , portraiture is a very real love of robs as well as landscape, in fact he does say he likes everything and everybody until proven otherwise. Rob lost his position with country artists as an originator of figurines in Dec'05 and after a frantic search to re-establish himself, to no avail he decided on his ace card "tattooing" and he is really enjoying himself.
